In 2023, recognizing the impending changes in digital privacy laws within the United States, I identified a critical need to overhaul our website tracking system at Specialty Dental Brands. The new regulations set to take effect in 2024 would require the implementation of cookie banners on all our websites. However, this posed a significant challenge: studies indicated that cookie banners could lead to a 70% drop in website traffic due to users opting out or not accepting tracking cookies. This would severely impair our ability to track user behavior and measure the effectiveness of our digital marketing efforts.
